WASHINGTON, Nov. 1, 2019 - The staff at Community Change who are members of the Nonprofit Professional Employees Union (NPEU), IFPTE Local 70 have ratified their second collective bargaining agreement. Highlights of the three-year contract include:

  • The organization’s first racial and gender equity article that covers transparency in hiring, retention, and pay

  • A newly designed discretionary leave policy

  • An increase in paid parental leave to 16 weeks

  • Three percent raises every year and COLA increases tied to DC CPI, meaning union members will see between four and 4.5 percent wage increases annually

"I am proud of our whole unit for the solidarity we showed during contract negotiations,” said Community Change bargaining team member Katy Heins. “Since this was our second contract negotiations, we all knew the value of our union. The whole unit stepped up to make this second contract strong. I am especially excited that we introduced and negotiated a new article in the contract on race and gender equity so that at Community Change we live out our values together."

Community Change staff formed their union in September 2016 and ratified their first contract in July 2017. The first contract established salary floors, secured annual wages increases, created a process for layoffs and severance pay, and banned salary histories in hiring. Their second contract built upon these gains.
