WASHINGTON, October 31, 2019 - Today, Action Squared employees—creators of progressive online organizing tools — including Action Network and Action Builder — announced they are unionizing with the Nonprofit Professional Employees Union, IFPTE Local 70 (NPEU). Action Squared managers have voluntarily recognized its staff’s union.

Founded by organizers with deep ties to the labor movement, Action Squared works closely with unions, labor organizations, and other progressive groups that use its digital tools to build progressive power. Action Squared employees believe forming a union will allow them to create a more equitable workplace.

“My Action Squared coworkers and I are unionizing to fully live our progressive values,” said Action Squared worker and NPEU member Jeff Dugas. “We are proud of the work our organization does to help build worker power, and with our union we will work to ensure working conditions for all staff at Action Squared align with our values.”

“Action Squared employees help organize and mobilize activists across the country, and now they will have a voice in their workplace like so many of their partners and colleagues do,” said NPEU President Kayla Blado. “We welcome Action Squared employees to NPEU, and are encouraged by the number of progressive groups taking collective action to improve their workplaces.”

Action Squared President Brian Young also congratulated the staff.

“Action Squared is rooted in the labor movement and we welcome the newly formed staff union, said Young. “We are proud to say that our tools are union-made, and we look forward to a strong partnership with the Nonprofit Professional Employees Union that can serve as a model for progressive organizations in creating a better workplace and world together.”

The Action Squared Union will now work with management to collectively bargain a union contract. Action Squared employees are committed to using their collective voice to improve workplace fairness, transparency, and diversity.

“We’re excited to have a larger voice in the direction of Action Squared, and we look forward to working with management to establish workplace rules and processes that make our organization stronger, ” said Dugas.

Many NPEU members use the organizing tools created by Action Squared employees everyday in their work, and are excited to stand side-by-side with Action Squared employees in their union.
