Remembering Former CAP Union Officer Denzel Cummings
We recently learned of the sudden passing of former CAP union officer Denzel Cummings. Denzel was a valuable part of our union community and an incredibly kind person. He will be greatly missed.
CAP’s union would not be where it is today without Denzel’s leadership. He was a strength for good, a calm presence that always helped members keep a level head through hard times, and an ever-present advocate for fairness and equity both in the union and in this country. Denzel was the head of organizing for a year and led the union’s work on diversity, equity, and inclusion as well as launching CAP’s pay transparency initiative.
After working at CAP for more than two years, Denzel recently moved back to his home state of North Carolina to work on Elizabeth Warren’s campaign, where he was excited to “bring big, structural change to the Tar Heel State.”
Warren’s campaign released a statement, applauding Denzel’s contribution to her campaign as “immediate and significant”—and that young people like Denzel working to make change represent the very best of her campaign.
Our thoughts go out to his friends and family in this painful time.
We love you, Denzel. Rest in power.
We will update this post with information on ways to remember Denzel and support his family in the coming days.
