NPEU Officers Reaffirm Call for Palestinian Liberation and a Permanent Ceasefire

WASHINGTON, D.C. The officers of the Nonprofit Professional Employees Union, IFPTE Local 70, AFL-CIO, CLC, reaffirm our solidarity with the Palestinian people in their struggle for safety and freedom from the ongoing occupation, apartheid, and genocide perpetrated by the Israeli government. We join many other unions in calling for an immediate and permanent ceasefire and an arms embargo. We unequivocally condemn the over 76-year occupation of the Palestinian people and all violence directed at Palestinian civilians.
Our labor as progressive nonprofit workers is dedicated to building a more just and equitable world. We work to ensure all people have access to healthcare, clean water, good jobs, and strong communities, and we want the same for Palestinians.
We call on President Biden and Vice President Harris to stop using our tax dollars to finance the ongoing destruction in Gaza, the West Bank, and Lebanon. We urge the US government, which is the primary source of political support, weapons, and funds which reinforce Israel’s occupation, to cease all sales of weapons to Israel and demand an immediate and permanent ceasefire.
We mourn for the over 40,000 Palestinians killed since October 7th, 2023, the thousands unjustly incarcerated as political prisoners, and the universities, hospitals, homes, and lands that have been destroyed by the Israeli military. We mourn for the more than 1,200 Israelis killed and for the Israeli hostages and their families, including those who have still not been returned. We condemn escalating rhetoric and hate crimes against Jews, Muslims, and Arab-Americans and urge our Union siblings to embrace our shared humanity and reject antisemitism and Islamophobia.
We also call on our own national labor federation, the AFL-CIO, who has invested millions of dollars in union membership dues in Israeli government bonds, to divest. We urge the AFL-CIO to answer the calls of thousands of fellow unionists and support the human rights of Palestinian workers and their families.
