IfNotNow Staff Unionizes with NPEU

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The staff of IfNotNow, a movement of American Jews working to end U.S. support for Israel’s system of apartheid, have officially unionized with the Nonprofit Professional Employees Union (NPEU), IFPTE Local 70. In a strong show of solidarity and shared values, IfNotNow’s management has voluntarily recognized the union.

This milestone reflects a mutual commitment to fostering a workplace grounded in equity, transparency, and collective decision-making—principles that are foundational to the mission of IfNotNow and aligned with the broader labor movement. “We are grounded in the long history of Jewish labor organizing as we formally join the labor movement,” said Eli Newell, a member of the organizing committee. “We are building justice in our own workplace so that we can continue to fight for equality, justice, and a thriving future for all in Israel, Palestine, and the U.S.”

IfNotNow executive leadership welcomed the union with enthusiasm, highlighting a shared vision for a just and inclusive workplace. “We are proud to voluntarily recognize the IfNotNow Staff Union, and carry forward the strong Jewish tradition of standing for workers rights,” said Morriah Kaplan, Executive Director. “As Trump and other authoritarians launch outrageous attacks on working people, we are more committed than ever to maintaining a workplace characterized by respect, dignity, and shared responsibility.”

The Nonprofit Professional Employees Union, which represents workers at mission-driven organizations across the country, celebrated the addition of IfNotNow staff to its growing ranks. “We are honored to welcome IfNotNow workers to NPEU. Their decision to organize reflects a deep commitment to their values and to each other. We commend IfNotNow management for respecting their employees’ voices and setting a powerful example in the nonprofit sector, even as the industry faces threats from the Trump administration,” said Amy Chin-Lai, President of NPEU.

The union and management will begin working together in the coming months to negotiate a first contract.
