WASHINGTON, June 28, 2022 - Zachary Parker won the Democratic primary for council member in DC’s Ward 5 last week. Zachary was among the candidates, initiative, and proposition the NPEU membership overwhelmingly voted to support throughout the U.S.

Zachary won in a crowded Democratic primary for council member, as the most progressive candidate in the field and with more individual contributions from DC donors than any other candidate. In addition to being endorsed by NPEU, he was endorsed by Metro DC DSA, Working Families Party DC, Sunrise Movement DC, 32BJ SEIU, and DC Attorney General Karl A. Racine.

Zachary’s win is due in large part to his vision of healthy communities and stopping cycles of violence and trauma, corruption, and displacement. He is a trusted community member and has the independence necessary to hold government agencies accountable.

“All levels of government need progressive, pro-worker candidates to ensure that the voice of the working class is heard, and Zachary will do that for DC residents,” said NPEU President Katie Barrows. “NPEU members are proud to endorse Zachary and the values for which he stands, and are excited he won in the DC Democratic primary. We look forward to supporting him at the ballot box in November.”

The DC General Election will take place Tuesday, November 8, 2022. Currently, early voting will open Friday, October 28, 2022.
