The following press release was issued jointly by J Street and the J Street Workers Union (which is part of NPEU):

Today, J Street management formally, voluntarily recognized the J Street Workers Union, with the National Professional Employees Union (NPEU) as its representative.

“J Street is committed to ensuring that the values that we pursue every day in our work — justice, equity, transparency, cooperation and respect — are reflected in our workplace,” said J Street’s president Jeremy Ben-Ami. “In that spirit, we’re very proud to formally recognize the J Street Workers Union. We look forward to a successful partnership with the union as we work together to further strengthen our organization and pursue our shared mission for many years to come.”

“My colleagues and I are thrilled to have formed the J Street Workers Union,” said union member Ben Gellman. “As J Street employees, we are all motivated by the organization’s groundbreaking pro-peace work, and our union membership is pleased to see J Street build upon its bold leadership in the progressive and Jewish nonprofit communities by recognizing our union. We are excited to join the proud history of progressive Jewish labor organizing that exists in both the United States and Israel.”

The J Street Workers Union will work with J Street management during the coming weeks to negotiate a union contract.

“Congratulations to J Street Workers Union,” said NPEU President Kayla Blado. “We are glad J Street management did the right thing and lived their progressive values by voluntarily recognizing the J Street Workers Union. We look forward to supporting the J Street Workers Union as they negotiate with management for a strong first contract.”
