WASHINGTON, Aug. 5, 2021 - The officers and staff of NPEU are deeply saddened by the death of AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka. His passing is a loss for the entire labor movement during a critical time of increased organizing and support for our shared work. President Trumka was a champion for working people who dedicated his more than 50-year career to fighting for fairness, equity, and respect for all workers. He will be missed. Our thoughts go out to his friends and family, as well as the whole labor movement.
The AFL-CIO under President Trumka’s leadership always felt like a home away from home for NPEU and our members. The AFL-CIO headquarters in Washington, DC hosted many key NPEU organizing meetings and our members were proud to be welcomed with open arms into the AFL-CIO family and the broader labor movement by President Trumka.
To honor his legacy, the U.S. Senate should act quickly and pass the Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) act without delay.
Rest in power, President Trumka.
