WASHINGTON, August 13, 2020 - Today, the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law (LCCRUL) and the Nonprofit Professional Employees Union (NPEU) signed an agreement that sets the terms for a card-check process for voluntary recognition. Upon confirmation of majority staff support for NPEU through this process, LCCRUL management will recognize LC United, the staff’s union, as the staff’s collective bargaining representative.
“Throughout our 57-year history, the Lawyers’ Committee has defended the right of labor to organize,” noted Kristen Clarke, Lawyers’ Committee President and Executive Director. “If NPEU is certified as the majority representative of the staff at Lawyers’ Committee, we will work with the union to make sure our organization is in the best position to address the nation’s continuing civil rights and racial justice challenges.”
“We are excited that Lawyers’ Committee management has committed to a process for voluntarily recognizing LC United and look forward to a productive and collaborative bargaining process upon certification.” said NPEU President Kayla Blado. “Through a union, workers will have a voice in shaping the future of their organization, as they continue to do vital work to protect and strengthen our civil liberties.”
