WASHINGTON, June 30, 2020 - The staff of Scholars Strategy Network (SSN) is excited to be unionizing with the Nonprofit Professional Employees Union (NPEU). The union has asked SSN management for voluntary recognition.

The following is a statement from the SSN Union on why they are unionizing:

“One of the strongest assets of Scholars Strategy Network is its talented and dedicated staff. Employees come to the organization with a range of expertise and a deep commitment to our mission, ready to work hard to advance smarter and more equitable policies. We’re proud of the work that SSN does, and believe that it can be made even better in our unionizing with the Nonprofit Professional Employees Union.

We believe that unionizing creates a platform for all staff to participate in ways that build on our strengths and address our weaknesses. By forming a union, we will work together to make SSN a place where talented employees can grow within the organization. We believe a union will allow staff to use our combined years of experience organizing scholars to build a more effective, democratic organization.

We are excited to enter the next phase of SSN’s organizational growth together.”

The SSN Union looks forward to signing the voluntary recognition agreement and beginning a constructive process of negotiations with SSN management in the coming months.

“We welcome the staff of SSN to NPEU,” said NPEU President Kayla Blado. “With their union, SNN employees will have a voice to create a stronger,  more effective organization. We hope for SSN’s management to quickly recognize SSN’s staff union.”
