Pittsburgh, PA— Pittsburgh United and its staff union, Pennsylvania Workers United, are proud to announce the ratification of their first union contract. Some of the highlights of their first contract are below:

  • Higher base pay, salary transparency, and more equitable pay for BIPOC staff

  • Enhanced pathways for leadership development

  • Diversity, Equity and Inclusion statement, working group, and training fund

  • Annual pay equity review for the organization

  • Flexible schedules, comp time for weekends and travel, and remote work policies

  • Annual raises through the life of the contract and a one time signing bonus

“With this contract we have established fairer and more transparent salaries, reinforced organizational commitments to racial and gender equity, and created more opportunity for staff at the organization,” said unit member Nathan Malachowski. “I am so proud of our team and the progress we will continue to make as we grow as a union.”

“Pittsburgh United is living its pro-worker and racial justice values through this union contract and we’re thrilled to have the staff as union members,” said Kayla Blado, NPEU President. “We look forward to supporting the staff union so they can thrive in their work toward racial, economic, housing, and environmental justice.”

"Pittsburgh United works to ensure every worker has a voice on the job and the ability to build power. Every worker deserves a union, from grocery store workers to nurses to our very own organizers,” said Executive Director, Jennifer Rafanan Kennedy.  “We were happy to recognize our workforce union as soon as they formed their unit and we look forward to continuing the critical work of the organization together."
