IFPTE Local 70 Endorses Presidential Candidate Bernie Sanders

Washington, D.C., February 5, 2016— The Union for Non-Profit Workers announced its endorsement of Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders today, with the first-in-the-nation New Hampshire primaries just a few days away.

A D.C.-based local union of the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers, IFPTE Local 70 selected Sanders as the candidate that best reflects the policies and values important to its members.

"Our political system is dominated by, and serves, those with power and money at the expense of everyone else," said IFPTE Local 70 member Kevin Cashman. "I think Bernie Sanders is the only candidate from either major party that understands this and is willing to build a movement to return power to the people." Added another member, Cherrie Bucknor, "I believe in pragmatic and common sense policy that would help solve our problems, such as universal single-payer health care, the expansion of Social Security, low-cost college education, a financial transactions tax, and paid family and medical leave. Senator Sanders is willing to fight for those policies, even if it means confronting powerful interests, or raising taxes on those who make hundreds of thousands of dollars a year."

IFPTE Local 70 is one of DC's fastest growing unions of non-profit workers, and represents staff members across the nation from prominent advocacy organizations and think tanks. For more information on the Union for Non-Profit Workers, visit their website at www.ifptelocal70.org.

The endorsement, passed by Local 70's Executive Board and rank-and-file membership, includes only IFPTE Local 70 member organizations as of the end of 2015 (listed below).
